“I have my cosmetologist licenses. I spent $23,000 just on the school alone.
“The only difference between myself and a barber is that he can use a straight razor. However, the state does not allow cosmetologists to [use] all the information they already know to get a barbering license. They expect us to go another 1,800 hours and pay more.
“During that time I was shown how to do men’s cuts. I learned anatomy and vascular systems. I learned everything except straight razoring.
“Through [Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs] regulation, I have to go to a barber school, spend more money, more required hours for one skill. One skill. One service that I would love to offer my clients.”
